I would like to give a shout out to Off Shore Shingle in Massachusetts for sharing this photo entitled "A proper felt lid". What we thought was interesting was the red lines. I asked about it and they responded. "Nylon string stapled to the felt to help secure it for weather and for safe walking".

I have never seen this before but it makes good sense. Who else does this? [

Or just use cap nails instead of staples....

I'm with everyone else. Walking on strings "stapled" to the roof sounds like a safety "Hazard" to me.

I do not understand what they mean by "safe walking". Must be a regional meaning that is put to the term.

Most people use the synthetic felt now too. it has the "strings" as an integral part of the membrane.
