"I am looking for a roofer to put a roof on new construction. I figure 25 square. No valleys. 6 on 12 pitch. Looking for JUST a labor price. "CASH MONEY PRICE". Shingles are shingles, I'll just price shop them myself. If you have 25 square of shingles left over from a job, I could be interested. House will be ready for shingles in about 3-5 weeks. If interested, I am taking names and phone numbers."

I found this ad on craiglist too. Would anyone like to drop what their doing and run over to meet this guy real quick? Under "Compensation" it said $1 per sq.

He will get what he pays for but people like that will never "Get It". He'll just think that the guy that put it on screwed him.

I was with a group of guys one time and one of them that didn't know me found out that I'm a roofer. He said he had a roof that needed done and asked "How much do you charge per square"? I started explaining that it depends upon multiple factors such as XXX and X. He got upset and rudely yelled "To hell with it, nevermind, I'll go home and look it up on line".

Another guy called me on my business line and asked the same question one time and got agitated when I started saying it depends on multiple factors. I wasn't in the mood to deal with him at the time. I said, "Sir, I've got a really good car out in front of my house for sale, how much would you pay me for it?" He says, "Uh, Uh, Well it depends. What kind of car is it? What year is it? What's the mileage? Etc. Etc. I just said "Yep, thats EXACTLY what I mean about the roof".

Vickie the Boss Said: How do you take one of the most important and expensive parts of your building and treat it like its an inconvenience? Something that just gets slopped on and forgotten about.

90% of builders in North Texas have that attitude. Also, 99% of slum-er-landlords, flippers, and the guy trying to sell his house are like that from my experience.

Looked at one about 5 yrs. ago. The guy did not want to be bothered too much. Just wanted a price (after I looked at it & measured I definitely got his attitude)

I never called him back. About 2 months later there was an ad in the local advertiser looking for laborers to replace his roof...

I'd like to see the final outcome of this house. Sounds like a waste of good(or not so) material.

Shingles are shingles? Instead of laughing I feel mad. How do you take one of the most important and expensive parts of your building and treat it like it's an inconvenience? Something that just get's slopped on and forgotten about.

Roofs should be cherished. Idiot!
