OLE Willie

The inner city is not a very safe place to be anymore, if it ever was.

Last week a 76 year old preacher was killed by two thugs as he was mowing the church grounds near the downtown area. He had 63 dollars in his wallet.

Recently the city, ( Birmingham, AL ) has been participating in the hit TV show "The First 48" because there are so many murders here.

Fortunately I don't live anywhere near the city, however I do work there and I found this on a roof today.

I don't like going to these areas to bid on work anymore but I still do it. Some other guys I know have ran into some problems with thugs but so far I have been fortunate!

Tinner, I have become so comfortable carrying that I don't think about it anymore. Which can lead to issues when I go up a ladder and the adjuster can see under my shirt.

They would have to be around Bhm, and south or east of Cullman but that would work for me.

I've been trying to find someone to work with like that who would actually uphold their end basically my whole life. :woohoo:

Just never seems to work out but I'm willing to try, again.

OLE Willie

Do you work for yourself or employed with a company?

I don't do commercial unless its at least a 1 on 12 slope.

I could refer some jobs to ya. My leads are high quality.

Turned down an invitation to bid on Hoover Animal Clinic just a few weeks ago.

That's interesting. I'm also from Huntsville. lol Been living and working in Bhm since 1995.

Here's some of the roofers I used to work for up there.

Clyde Wilkerson, Charlie Baker, Billy Thompson, Doc Holiday, Scott Roofing, Garland Wilson, Kens Construction.

Do you know any of them?

OLE Willie

Well it was at like 2 am in the morning. I'm pretty sure he was there looking for drugs. But even that shouldn't cost you your life but it can and did in this case.

Where you from Alba?

You do work here sometimes or full time?

Did you know the old Carraway Hospital has been closed down for several years now?

About a year ago in Birmingham 20-25 black men beat a single white man to his death in the street, using anything they could find laying around. Rocks, blocks, bricks, glass bottles, etc.

There were many witnesses yet no one would come forward with any info to help convict anyone and no one was ever charged with his murder.

One woman, when asked why would they do this said quote: " Because he was here ". end quote.

Did you hear about it on the National News?

Didn't think so!

That's a very high murder rate comparable to some of the most dangerous countries. Honduras 82.1 2010 El Salvador 66.0 2010 Cote d'Ivoire 56.9 2008 Jamaica 52.1 2010 Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of) 49.0 2009 Belize 41.7 2010 Guatemala 41.4 2010 Saint Kitts and Nevis 38.2 2010 Zambia 38 2008 Uganda 36.3 2008

Yep! There are about 40 cities circling all around Bhm. Most of them are relatively safe but when it comes to the Bhm City Limits its another story.

Birmingham crime rate down overall; still ranks 4th in U.S.

Birmingham's crime dropped in every category last year, with the number of murders reported in the city decreasing by 20 percent.

Still, despite a 10 percent drop in overall crime, the city ranked fourth nationally in overall crime because of a national downward trend in crime, according to the FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report for 2009. In 2008, Birmingham ranked third nationally in overall crime.

The report, released Monday, is consistent with the preliminary numbers issued in May.

The 65 murders in 2009 reported to the FBI was the lowest recorded in the city since 2004, but it was still not enough to push Birmingham out of its traditional spot among the Top 10 most murderous cities with populations of 100,000 or more.

With a 2009 murder rate of 29 per 100,000 residents, Birmingham finished ninth, behind New Orleans; Richmond, Calif.; St. Louis; Detroit; Baltimore; Baton Rouge; Flint, Mich.; and Newark. Hartford, Conn., rounded out the Top 10.

In 2008, Birmingham had 36 murders per 100,000 residents. There were 71 slayings in Birmingham last year.

I've found them too, on carraway hospital, downtown mission...B'ham has some nice areas and some other ones where even the cops think twice before going.

Years ago I pulled out of a neighborhood due to the volume of "hot lead" flying around. The property owner said, "Well, they're not aiming at you." That might be true, but no amount of $$$ would mitigate the risk of collateral damage to my form. Not a fan of becoming an incidental backstop for misdirected gunfire.

Find them all the time. Found two in my new roof. Yesterday, I was with a RCS lurker I know in an area the PD was NOT allowed to enter without backup. Look closely and you might see something under my shirt.

The client said his new area is even worse. The new area is very upscale and my normal baliwick. This area just had one of his properties.

Here's a bullet hole in a slate.
