An insurance company's primary purpose is to make a profit. That is goal #1. Providing coverage is simply the goods they sell in pursuit of profit. Same for roofing, a bakery, a grocery store, etc.

My dad was a claims manager for a large ins firm, and later owned his own adjusting firm. I have been working with adjusters in the roofing business for 33 years, and sometimes against them. They set up that situation, not me. I approach every storm damaged roof from a simple perspective: Call it like I see it, and refuse to budge from that. I represent the building owner and if I get an adjuster who is stingy or incompetent, we will do battle all the way through the appraisal process if necessary.

I don't know if the adjuster knows what he's doing or not, but I know what I'm doing and I trust my assessment of the damage more than I trust his.

From a purely anecdotal standpoint, I have found 3 out of 10 adjusters to be either crooked or incompetent - sometimes it's hard to tell which. I have literally stood on roofs in the middle of a baseball hail damaged area, with new roofs being installed all around, and had the adjuster tell me I couldn't prove the damage was caused by hail. I have watched an adjuster cheat a school district out of $56,500 on hail damage the adjuster knew was there, and agreed to pay less than 10 minutes after I set the ladder up. I have ran across an adjuster from Arizona who was adjusting hail claims in Lamesa, Tx, who motioned me to come over where he was and he asked me to show him what hail damage looked like because he'd never seen it before.

Most adjusters are honest and competent, but if you work with them regularly you will not have to wait very long before you run into one who isn't.

aenonsmith Said: Huge damages caused to my house and garage. The roof was damaged completely which caused the water to enter the house which in turn caused the flooding. Had called the public adjuster who did all the work, repairing perfectly.

I.M.O. Paying a Public Adjuster 10-15% of the total claim is just plain lazy and hedges on stupid......the drive by lawyers and many on here have contributed to the idea insurance company sole purpose is too rip HO's off. Nothing could be further from the truth. B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day

Rockydog Said: Come on, you can be legit and damn humble when doing insurance work. Every local contractor out there wishes they could have one hit their area. The problem is dealing with the chasers and limiting their share of the pie.

I sure in the HELL don't want a hailstorm within 100 miles of me

"Insurance" work is still an ugly business....No matter how one sugar-coats it.....Not for the humble/legit, (for lack of words), types, that's for sure....

The real facts ,The Roofing industry is the culprit in the blue roof scheme.Unethical and Gouging the Feds out of millions of dollars for little work. Feds were paying an average $ 2500.00 to roofing contractors to tarp a standard small roof.. Goggle ....U.S. paying a premium to cover storm damaged-roofs. Living in a bubble is a refuge that exacts it price. B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day

Makes sense: us Flyover states pay for people building on the ocean. (real smart) Then we get paid off with false claims to Organic Shingle Failure.

Not what I mean. It is a " FACT." An example we might understand...... if you are out to sea in national water and the ship your on is wrecked stranded or starting to sink. The Coast Guard comes to the rescue and other Federal and local entities. You not getting off because they are Federaly funded by taxes? If I'm on the ship I will try to convince you to leave that's your choice. I leaving if it's me. Public Safety is the issue here.
