surgery is in 1 week, jan 2. I got all my big jobs done that I am able to do, 1 other job said they will wait till I am better, 1 never got back with me. so I am going into it with a clean slate. so, not a lot to do until then, except a nice warm up is coming this weekend so I'll be able to get in a few service calls real quick.........perfect.

Tim, I know what you're saying. My surgeon said that the MMA guys are really messing up their theories and the way they diagnose injuries. MMA people are building up all the muscles around an area and when they get injured, it doesn't take long for the other muscles to take over the job of the injured muscle , joint, tendons etc. and they can keep doing what their doing. so the injury doesn't seem too bad, but it really is.

My guy was going to send me home with some PT and he said to look at the MRI to show whats wrong and he was real embarrassed because he misdiagnosed the problem, all my other muscles in the shoulder area took over to do the job. so needless to say, we are speeding up the surgery.

Tinner, that would suck. I had my MRI in 3 days of going to the doc, and the results in about 12 hours. but then I have the big sport doc around that takes care of all the pro sport people here. your experience is what everybody will be dealing with when Obamacare kicks in !?!?!?! Good Luck !

Best wishes and take care. :) VA won't even do my MRi until the 18th. Until then and getting the results, I'll just trudge on and keep sucking the pain pills.

Good luck with the surgery, man. MMA is hard on the body, no doubt about that.

Ironically, in 1994 it was to be my last year of competing in karate tournaments. I was to test for 3rd Dan in a few months and then I was going to keep taking my students to tournaments, but I was going to stop competing myself in every dang tourny that was within 1/2 drive. It's hard on the body! Was just gonna hit a few tournaments held by friends.

I was looking for a gym and was finally going to allow myself to get a little bigger. Big and muscular are usually a good bit slower, and in point sparring, speed is everything. Since I wasn't going to compete anymore I was going to allow myself to seek bigger biceps, chest, etc. Already had muscular legs due to many years of karate, but that too can slow down your kicks too.

Anywho, about that same time I had a bad car accident and never got the chance again.

Sidenote: I had 3 muscle transplant/transfer surgeries in Toronto. One of them, a 13-1/2 hour surgery, took a gracilus muscle from my inner thigh and put it into my forearm. The transplant surgeon, Dr. Ralph T. Manktelow, pioneered the surgery and had done hundreds of them. He said he was shocked when he open up my leg - said it was by far the largest gracilus muscle he'd ever seen. He asked what unusual activity I did to build a muscle that people rarely use. When I told him I taught karate, he nodded and said "Ohhh, now I get it."

left shoulder, tore all the rotator cuff tendons, except the back one, labral tear in the socket.

had my right one done in 08, and I have to say, the left will be a lot easier to deal with.

I figure I'll be out for at least a week, then I'll hire a guy to come with me to set up the ladder and carry stuff for me. I'll try to set up jobs, inspect roofs, consult, as much as possible for 3 weeks, after that I should be ok to start on my own again......now, I'm going off the timeline of the last shoulder surgery. But I think this one is alittle more serious.

we'll see?!

OLE Willie

I must have missed it. What kind of surgery are you getting?

That's the biggest draw back for us guys that do our own work. Something happening to us to make it where we can't do it anymore.

Whatever it is, I hope everything goes well for you buddy!
