They had us on the front page of the local paper last week. It is a historical building and a lot of people are interested in the work we are doing. They have an open house later this week and we will be there explaining our process and handing out cards. What fun! https://picasaweb.google.com/crookston.john4/June21?authkey=Gv1sRgCMnp8rvL1aeMTg#5758515187511582626

We have put on thousands of squares of concrete tile over the years and we almost always did that with just regular battens. I never gave it a thought on this job though. A counter batten system is a good way to put down a roof, but it also increases the flashing problems.

As usual, interesting pictures. Did you consider using a batten/counterbatten system on that roof? You've already done all the layout that would have been required. If you would have put lath lined up to the right side of your vertical lines it would have been right under your nails in the tile (for support) and your horizontal lines are all set for 1x3 or 1x4 cedar battens. Such a system would have greatly cut down the number of nail penetrations, given a little bit of a cold roof effect, eliminated the need for ladders laying on the roof as your whole roof would have become like a ladder, greatly increasing the mobility of those working on it. It would have also enabled you to distribute and stack the tile within arms reach of where needed.

Thanks! Tomorrow we tear down the scaffold on the upper roof and we only have the lower flatter areas to do. Hooray! It has taken a long time, and the attention to details is tearing us up. I believe we will do just fine on it though. Glad you liked the pics.

OS, I looked over the emoticons on the side and can only say that Steve needs to add one of me bowing down in the "We're not worthy" stance. Really impressive! I can only guess how much that would cost. :woohoo: Hope you made some money on that one.

I tried to post this as a seperate post the other day and the site would not let me do it. I can add to existing posts but nothing new. Hey Steve, you out there?

This is through last Tuesday before the 4th. but we were out there yesterday and today for about 5 hours each day and we got the side done. It was about 100 degrees both days by the time we quit. Too hot.

That is a funny angle unless you know what you are seeing. It had not been counter/flashed at that time, so you have a hard time seeing where the wall is and where the roof is. It is all closed off now and I will try and get a picture of it for you next week in the post. Good catch!

Works now. Is that a hole/holiday in the mineral cricket material where it turns up the brick? Might want to double check it. Pic 10 of 27. https://picasaweb.google.com/crookston.john4/June21?authkey=Gv1sRgCMnp8rvL1aeMTg#5758515307290438018

Try it again, I hit it and it came up for me. I can post it again if someone else says they can't access it too.
