Personally I am not effected. City of Harrisburg is. Our main river the Susquehanna will overflow about 5'. We have many tributeries feeding the river that are so over bank, roads closed & flooded already and wer'e not done with the rain yet until tomorrow AM. Turned the TV off tonight just to listen to the rain beating MY(shingle)ROOF. I refuse to look in my basement until tomorrow. I may take on a little, minimal, I think I need an extra downspout on the west side of the house. It can't take torrential rains. Keep your gunpowder dry. :) PC
Ottowa, I'm in a raised ranch, this is my only wall under ground. I was a brave soul today and took a peak. Yes, a little seepish. I had my chimney done this year (west wall) and recaulked on the outside which I think was the saver. I'm still going with the extra downspout with the extention. I am on a hill and my west wall gets hit. My poor neighbor below me, his whole basement is below ground, he has already waterproofed his. I know guys who do gutter & spouting work, they will gladly help me out.
I know you guys are roofers but I know enough of you , you know so much more, so here is the question: On my leaky west side, ideally I would like to put a concrete patio. Would it be best to eliminate the flower beds and run the concrete up to the brick wall? Could that possibly eliminate drainage to the basement? PC
Patty, that cost is minimal considering what damage could accure.Stick to your gut felling. If you think you need an extra downspout "give er" with a extension on the bottom of the elbow. to Push water away from your basement, also look at the grade of your land to make sure that your landscape does not flow back to your basement.
I just saw a bunch of it in Japan. Wow!
