It's not often we go after insurance companies but I need numbers on this job. Have a job that has Independence Shangles on it and they are paying for Laminate shingles. Since I don't use there programs I don't speak their language. Can anyone tell me what that program pays for a Steep Roof 8/12 pitch to be exact, 2 story home?
That way I will speak their language and won't get bothered with them not understanding why I am so much higher than they are. OMG, it's like talking to a brick wall if I don't use their program. They don't understand what a Man Day is plus our GP%.
All replies have been helpful. This homeowner is willing to come out of pocket to pay the difference with the Roof System that we are installing. I figured that I would win more referrals from him and his family if I could lessen that burden. I really don't care where the money comes from and have glazed my eyes over and left the C-D and F customers that don't want a professional job. I run on Man Days of a Job with overhead and profit built in with a Profit First System. However, they currently have Independence on the home and that is what should be covered. They cost more to buy and to install. If the insurance company stated that they had damage they are now liable to the homeowners contract with them on damages. I'll just throw my numbers to the insurance company and see if I can add some more value to our company.
Thanks for the replies.
The few ins. jobs I do......I simply give them my price.....When they start with their "Exacto-crap", or whatever, I simply glaze-over, so-to-speak.....I politley answer all their questions. But the simple fact is; It is what it is. No matter how anyone wants to slice it.
Contractors can choose to "play their games" or not...It's a decesion one has to make.
I run into homeowners that say their ins. co. is only paying so much....I ask them if they agreed to certain amounts for certain "events"...The answer is always, no they didn't and light bulbs go on....I have NEVER, done a job that an insurance Co. has dictated what they will pay....NEVER.
It's absolutely absurd....But then again, so is calling your employees "subs"....But I'm just a dinosaur.... :)
The major carriers have set up this system and are the ones who continue to support it where a canned software pricing database becomes the real world cost of insurance repairs. When you think about it canned default insurance repair cost databases may be required by the large carries to create the selling price of policies. If so it does not make any real financial differences if the repair costs are right or wrong as long as the payout is in line with the figures used when pricing the product initially. Historically loss experiences can be computed but material and labor cost is the wild card.IC/P.
Control the payout pricing for materials and labor then roll the dice. B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day
Thanks Chuck. That is helpful.
however, just about anyone can put a line item price together. Unit pricing? Sure why not.....
The problem is the $ amounts. If the line items come out to $225 per sq. and I need $275 minimum, this has exactly nothing to do w/ Exactimate "knowledge" or the ability to open a spreadsheet. NOTHING at all.
It has more to do w/ who is escaping labor burdens, roofing insurance and cutting corners on the job.
Where does the Desk Jockey address those issues?
Oh wait, those 250 sub contractors are "staff"!
This may help you, http://www.uphelp.org/pdfs/XactimateDemystified.pdf

Local pricing structure? C'mon Chuck. You've been roofing how long? Any aware HO who is not looking for something for nothing is absolutely amazed at the variance in price and depth of the BullChit.
50% of Contractors have never read the shingle package. 60% are cutting every possible corner 80% of the installers have never read the installation instructions. 80% of both have no idea about product warranties or their requirements
Most of the contractors out there are not only chasing some magical "Going rate" number, they depending on the INS COS to tell them what it is!
STRUCTURE is not a word that I would use here....... PRICING could easily be replaced w/ Guessing
I AM CURIOUS: Where does Exactimate find these local contractors?
Is the job yours?? The H/O is going to pay you. They do have a Shangle pricing structure in Xactomate. The pricing will depend on how the local contractors in your area have taught Xactomate the pricing. It is by zip code and local pricing structure.
