Not a job, a dream. I dreamt last night that we put on a hot roof demonstration. You were all there. Not sure where it was but there was a small kettle on the roof, hot cart, heavy mop, tons of pea gravel, the works. At the end of the dream I left my boots on the pile of gravel and said I'm never going to wear them again, some young guy can have them. Been 25 years since I did any hot work. I'm sure I won't be doing any more.

My dad landed this dream roof job back in the 1970s, the Sioux Ordinance Depot in Sidney, Ne. 17 buildings, each 90,000 sq. ft., no vents, no skylights, just a firewall down the middle. 35 acres of roofing.

He tore them off to the deck and mopped on a base & 4-ply, using as many as 125 men at a time. It took him a year and a half, and just as he was finishing the last building, baseball sized hail wiped out the roofs and they paid him to do them all again. That is when he invented the Kold King rig. In fact, my dad bought 1/2 of 1 of those building and it was the Kold King plant back then.

He landed this job over a $100 deal. He misfigured on a job and his customer told my dad that he owed my dad another $100, my dad refused to accept it. Two weeks later that guy was having a coffee with a friend, who owned the Sioux Ordinance Depot, who said he was looking for an honest roofer and didn't think any more existed.

Sounds like a good time!

I woke up tired after dreaming about work.
