How much a square is insurance allowing roofers to make these days?
Yes, Bucks, (12/20's) except for the odd Vermont Grey somebody used. Probably no headlap there either.
Are those Buckingham slates? Kind of look like it. I know what you speak of. We went to a job about 60 miles to the east and spent 4 days trying to fix the "repairs" that had been made for the last 10 years. Graduated Random Multi color and you know that they just put in what ever they could find. Ready, FIRE!, aim! We had the same thing this past summer in Kalamazoo, $40,000 in repairs to a college roof and 90 % of that was taking apart old repairs and fixing them. Sheesh!
Hey guys, if you really don't know what you are doing on a slate roof, stay off and ask us. If you think you do, but you have never been trained, ask us first. I see a lot of damage caused to perfectly good roofs.
When I get days like this, I just think of quitting, and maybe even taking a dive to boot! :woohoo:  I seldom get what is known as a slate repair any more. It's this crap over and over again.
Old School Said: Tinner, quit it. You are going to have all of the guys trying to do slate!
I believe your'e rigth OS!
BTW, I got on one today expecting to do the valleys and minor repairs. It's 30' up, 12/12 so I never did a full inspection, btw.
I start looking at a place where a slate slid out. It looks like I'll be re-repairing agin.   No headlap, and worse. Here's an example.

Here's '0' headlap.

I don't know what this is.

And I think this last pic is going to take some investigation.

Tinner, quit it. You are going to have all of the guys trying to do slate!
Let's see. 200 slate repalced. About $xxx. 312 to a sq. so around $xxx. per sq. :)
