I know you guys know roofing but I know you know more than that. Here is my question. I'm having my chimney redone. It is a brick shell added on by the first owner, not built with the house. My husband & I put in a pipe liner that failed after 18 years. Should I put in stainless steel or galvanized? PC

Well the chimney is done. They pulled out the old broken pipe. They installed one of the expandable liners and filled in- with insulation to keep it stationary. They replaced the interior pipe going into the wall and put a new cap on top, caulked the outside of the chimney that was seperating from the house. Nice job. Life time warranty, free three year inspections to maintain warranty. I already had the right brushes to clean myself yearly. The other two guys never showed or called. I showed my one estimate to various contractors I know and they felt that it was fair. I caught them at a good time, I called and accepted the estimate and they were here the next day. The guy said in a months time they will be so busy, with people starting to burn, having clogged chimneys & chimney fires. I've picked up the skids to stack the wood & contacted a guy selling true cords, he only has one cord left that will be delivered on Tuesday and for a little extra he will even stack it. Yeah!!! At least I'll have the one cord to work with while I find at least 2 more maybe 3. Depending on the winter I'll burn between 3-4 cords. I'm smiling. :) :) :)

Patty Cakes Said: Dont burn Pine...if your gonna burn....burn right.
she was a little old lady, who collected her wood from the roadside when folks would cull their lot or brush clearin. I did things for her as I was able, beyond that she had no one.the carolina winters can be brutal on the coast.

my internet was down, hope they come through for ya. I recollect way back in the early 80's I'd moved to NC and was at this older womans house, she told me to grab this old large tater sack.I did,she told me to go out to this old brick pile and fill it 1/2 way with bricks.then to get up on the roof, set up a ladder and drop that sack down the chimney. she give me directions on how to juig it up and down and this and that. come to find out,she burned alot of pine and the flue would get sappy.she then took some of the chunks that came out and used them for lighter.

another arousing post. I have seen the clay liners, and the galvanized.when you said stainless, the first thing I thought was you got 18 years out of the first one.will you need or expect 18 out of the second one? so,I googled and found chimneylinerexpress.com. what A very informative site.lawd ha'marcy, this internet is fascinating. the site answers all your questions, and will provide variables to what others think. I've always been the thinker,go getter opinion type myself. with the net,we now have A sounding board.
