I just wanted to call your attention to a new scourge of the internet. Article spinning.
When you read something on the internet that looks like this "Snowfall blows into from the center ridge of my steel rooftop barn. A webiste to stop it all?" someone has taken a question, comment or article and spun it to come up with new roofing related content to post. There are companies and software you can buy to do this.
Google now rates you by relevant content so if you post things that appear to be applicable how is google going to know it doesn't make sense? Then they put a link back to their site for better ranking. Since I started my blog I have been getting about 60 of those kinds of posts per day.
I post this because those companies are soliciting your business. GAF for example has hired such a company. I hope they don't know this is happening, I would hate to think they are condoning this.
This last offender was Chips Roofing Products in Denver. They posted in the last two hours 15 comments all leading back to his Google+ page. 15 posts of nonsense that I have to read through to see if it's a real comment. All with titles of Denver Roofer, Denver Roofing & Denver Roofing Company.
I try and do something productive and helpful and I spend all day sifting through the fake posts that seem to be from roofers! Luckily 1/2 say "Try cialis" so those are easy to spot.
Whoever you are Chip I had better never run into you in a dark alley!!!
Maybe. With the advent of the internet and LOTS of people surfing, potential clients search more than the local BBB to check out a roofer. One even found a pic of me roofing on the nude when they dug deep enough. I, for one, am very visible. My 'handle' is on the front page of my site. I even post links on my 'blog' page to topics I'm involved in here, and at other forums. I do this so people can get a feel for how I handle roof issues and they 'get to know me' before they make the call. TRg remarked that because of this, I've already done the groundwork and made the 'sale' before I get called. That and charging for estimates to weed out the tire kickers mean that a call is usually a job, not some sales trip.
No I don't. I always assumed the was safe haven talk for roofers. Should I? I'll make a post about it.
Yes you do Vickie. You're great! :) I may have worded my response wrong, so don't beat me too badly. Some of the other forums have a 'lively and active' audience and participators that are DIY oriented. Posting how-to answers is rewarding in itself. G seems to like that too. I've gotten clients from all the forums by not posting nonsense. I even had a DIYer show up at the door from Fla. to thank me. :silly:
I wish more would show up here too. Do you SEO for the DIY crowd at all?
If they're that Internet savvy they ARE NOT roofers. They are more than likely storm chasers that are using every form of technology to exploit this industry in yet another heinous way. We often skirt this issue not facing it square on. This and several points of roofing are being dismantled by these type people. We had Apost last year about how to infiltrate communities that are hail ridden year to year in order to compete, or at least not lag under the pressure that roving sales crews apply to A community. They are the primary supporters of illegal 40 dollar A day workers. This is my experience, ot my opinion.
I don't mind ever helping you or anyone that participates in this forum. You help the RCS why wouldn't we want to help promote you? But posting paragraphs of nonsense it just clogs up the internet and wastes our time.
That's why I try to stay relevant and post in forums that have 'follow links' allowed on their pages. I don't think on does, but I post anyway. I post more elsewhere.
