I think I followed what you were saying egg. Is it?: Campaign Finance Reform ain't gonna fix much of this mess?

We have Dodd Frank, Liz Warren's new financial consumer savior agency, supposedly to save the little guy and eliminate market crashes and consumer financial pitfalls. Yet daily I hear mortgage adds targeting the underwater homeowners offering loans 125% of the value of their house, this while values are still falling. It's like they're saying "you're underwater, hold this rock for me". You can't have a government big enough to prevent the stupid from doing stupid things.

So who is it that is going to get tarred and feathered?

Who should be targeted if we are going to "claw back" the fraudulent profits?

The Glass-Steagall act, it was pointed out, was 34 pages long. The Dodd Frank regulations, it was pointed out, is too complicated, a guaranteed opportunity for gaming and deceit.

GOP doesn't talk about "fat cats." Just not in the vocabulary. But GOP presidents haven't shown any remarkable functional difference from Dem presidents Clinton and Obama. As was pointed out, except for when the politically expedient populist rhetoric about fat cats suits him, as talk, Obama isn't functioning as a liberal. Who cares?

My point is that this has nothing to do with conservative and liberal personnas. When the investment banking conglomerates can go from an historical 15% of GDP to 40% merely by getting access to and borrowing public money at ten basis points ( one tenth of 1%) and then putting it down on any schemes they choose with no fear of having to eat any real losses, lose any jobs, give back any ill-gained profits, or face any lethal penalties or jail time, they are stealing. They are amoral, actually corrupt. Laughing all the way to the, yeah, bank, and it is altogether disgusting.

As Stockman says, if that cannot be stopped outright nothing will prevent the eventual cataclysmic shortfall when capital markets destabilize and "the music stops." They can't help themselves. Can't self-enforce. Can't resist temptation. They don't have the soul for it. Depraved drunk on unparalleled subsidies. They don't care about politics as long as they can buy off the guards. Has nothing to do with politics.

woody: I see your point. Moyers is extremely liberal. he did kind of throw in his "solution" near the end. I don't see campaign finance reform as much of a solution at this point. We've gone much off the deep end. After some tarring and feathering then we can lighten up and change a few laws.

What Stockman was saying, was very well said. He explained it in a direct, historical manner. Maybe he does not think we Americans are too stupid to get it.

Thanks larry b. I was watching it on a PBS station last night and thinking "Stockman sounds like me!" Found it on-line and sent it out

Good work on getting that piece out.

Problem is that not enough contractors and others affected by what was discussed (forget about Moyers) even bother to pay attention until it's much too late. Even the term - "Crony Captialism" - is a misnomer. What is taking place is not Capitalism in the traditional sense but something entirely different. Again, most of the people affected have little to no clue about what is going on and most choose to remain apathetic.

Most assume that it's just the way things are and that no one can undo the damage that "they" cause. Key though to reversing the trend is in understanding that the organizations causing the damage are made up of individuals. Once the individuals are exposed it's easy enough to connect the dots to their "accomplices" and start asking questions and demanding changes.

See a number of good examples at www.iccoa.com of what "they" are doing and what can be done about it. Once informed, you can take action but if you don't take action all you/we will be able to do is react.

The very lovely Mrs. Ciak and I have been planning an exit plan now for a couple of years. It is sad to think we may have to implement it. B) :( :( B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day

I've never had much use for Moyers. Every time I tried to watch him, I'd hit the remote about the third time they'd show a closeup of him with his face all scrunched-up to show his concern. So I've never seen more than about 5 minutes of his shows at a time. But he's gotten so old now, the scrunched up look is harder to see.

As for Stockman, he was the best thing about the Reagan administration. When they canned him, they abandoned fiscal conservatism.

I wondered where Moyers was going with this interview and in the end it was revealed-government financed elections. Maybe it's good in theory, but it's been disasterous in places it's been tried. Portland OR had to reluctantly put an end to its' attempt at it and the Oakland city government is testament to what the potential results can bring.

Roofguy, I'm sorry, but I can't help but find your "God wants me to have an AK47" arguement laughable. It plays right into the "bitter clingers" cliche that Obama wants all opposition painted as. A much more plausible arguement is the total failure of gun control in Chicage and DC. Worth checking out is the Washington Times 5 part series "Emily gets her gun".

The scary thing to me is that more and more very credible people are saying the same thing: Troubled times, they are a comin'!

I like Glenn Beck but he tends to be a little bit of a tin foil hat kinda guy, seeing the boogeyman behind every tree. But there are also some very savvy economic minds who're saying the same thing now.

That putz Bill O'Reilly tends to throw cold water on Beck's theories, but even O'Reilly is now saying that widespread rioting is very likely...in this country. As usual, O'Reilly arrives to the dance just as everyone else is leaving, but at least he's getting to the right building this time.

I think two things are possible if not probable: 1. Obama wins reelection, simply because there are too many dopes who'll vote for the inept Chicago clown. and; 2. Obama will use his second term to go even more radical, causing widespread unrest.

Obama has already told Sarah Brady and others to be patient, and they will go after the Second Amendment in his 2nd term. There are millions and millions of Americans who believe that the right to keep and bear arms to defend their family and to stave of tyranny, is one of those innalienable rights endowed by our Creator...and thus no law and no man can take away that right. It would be a bad time in this country.

Well worth the time. Both of the interviews. We are probably headed for our own version (down the road a bit) of the famous French Revolution of the 1700's. I hope not, but it doesn't look good. People just don't seem to know enough to quit before it's too late. I noticed that one of the funders of the program was the Herb Alpert Foundation. I'll never forget his albums that came out in the 60's. He made a fortune, gives a lot of it back on a regular basis, and he still plays the trumpet.
