Bad Roofer or Bad Homeowner?

There is something about this that makes me think this was a bad roofer. The bad cuts were too neat.

Gutters are the worst! I have to have schpeels about them too often. If they can't go under the drip edge in spots, I ask/tell them to install aluminum strips that facilitate #TheWholeReasonWeAreInBusiness flow!

If the contest is to determine why this photo was taken, I would say that the roofer tearing off wanted to show how the roof had no starter shingle and underlayment under the valley metal. The original valley was cut to that rust stain. There is no crease in that metal other than where they lifted the metal up to look under which crinkled it. It is getting to where you have to bend your own metal edge these days. The suppliers around here buy the cheapest they can get and that 1 1/2" metal won't cover the facia and deck. And gutter guys are the worst. It is rare to see one done right. The gutter guy I use knows to run the gutter behind the metal and I make sure to leave enough room for him.

Had to be a "brother in law" job or the like. Any roofer with even a small amount of experience would know to at least run the starter strip under the valley metal and extend both outside edges at least an inch into the gutter and then cut the metal off.

Evidently they have never heard of a magnet or a blower either or else they were to lazy to use them. Something else nobody mentioned is that the poor little piece of drip edge does not go into the gutter. It's behind the gutter.

This is the kind of stuff that happens when people think "anyone can put on a roof". :angry:

Vickie, If you look at the picture, the "center" bend of the valley is where the rust spot is. The 'roofer" has it way off center and then he cut the bottom to make the center of the "v" in the center of the actual valley. I blame this entirely on the "roofer" Stupid goes all the way down to the bone. At least ugly is only skin deep. also, who is so cheap that they only put a 1 inch lip drip edge on. the idiot was short valley and he never bothered to get enough to extend it out to where it needed to go. A bad Joke!
