My father came here at 50 a former accountant to a janitor job for my family that he loved 6 months prior to our arrival. As for the ID thing in Arizona, sorry I got distracted. FCK it. Do you know I was asked for ID 3 times last week. Once by my bank, I went to a satellite not my normal, thank you. Again at 2 stores where I used my credit card, thank you. I got ID'd today, thank you.

Deporting illegals is done all the time; from all countries in the world. Habing to deport a lot of them is just a sign that we have not addressed the problem for a long time. This situation has nothing to do with race........it's all about the money (and voting power). It's a proven fact that the Hispanic vote will be a major player in upcoming elections and don't think these scumbag politicians don't know that. Personally I cannot conceive of deporting 12M people in any kind of orderly manner. We're stuck with the problem of turning them into Americans, whatever that procedure entails. Also I think all the border states should adopt Arizona's law. First we have to plug the borders........both ways, then we can do something about who's here and how to deal with them.

Illegal immigrants are not DRAINING our society the majority of them work hard. The wall street people are. If you look at any border city, you will find a clumping of US retailers standing ready for Mexican shoppers. Dollar Stores, Walmarts, JcPenney, you name it. This means that the whole purpose of the wall is to keep out Mexicans that somehow can't pass for a Walmart shopper (scary thought) and overstay. So I don't understand the wall theory.

Good Morning Minn, Back in the 70's I lived in Canada and they had a program because of all the draft dodgers that drifted to Canada to come forward, be legal on the books. I did that, not as a draft dodger but I was illegal, I came forward, worked, paid my dues but returned to the states. I didn't want this post to focus on Mexicans, I wanted to focus on the legitimacy of residency.

Anyway, in total agreement, too many businesses are hiring illegals. Big time here in PA. Not necessarilly in the roofing trade but my area in particular is vegitation. I agree with 2ndgen - Make them pay like the rest of us or deport them all - So funny how these company owners are against the illegals - yet look the other way to make a buck by hiring a sub with a crew of them to take liability off of them.

It's the American Contractors who hire them that should be deported and stripped of their citizenship for providing them with the work that should be going to American Citizens.

Think of all the dramatic changes the roofing industry has had to go through because illegal roofers changed the landscape. We got out of residential roofing over 25 years ago due mostly to the fact that it is so easy/cheap to get set up to nail on shingles that illegals overwhelmed the sector and drove prices too low.

Which bring me to a major per peave of mine. I'm getting sick and tired of hearing mindless dopes saying illegals do the jobs Americans won't do. Bullhockey!!! They do a job for a cheap price that the rest of us can't match. This may come as a complete surprise to them but an awful lot of roofers, myself included, consider roofing to be a craft that they enjoy doing. I actually enjoy monkeying plastic cement, or laying a parapet flashing, and I take pride in the fact that, back in the day, I was better with a spraywand than anyone who ever lived (as far as I know lol). I STILL take price in the absolutely perfect straight-as-a-ruler wall flashing that you can still see from the street on the Baptist Church in Spur Texas fully 28 years after I installed it. I knew instinctively what 12 gallons per square was, and I was one of 4 people I know in the US who had the finesse with the cutback wand to spray a 3-tab shingle in prep for embedding cermaic granules so smooth and precise that a roof consultant in Colorado Springs, standing on that roof, could not tell it wasn't a new shingle.

Roofers will do the work, they just can't do it for $20 a day!

And you thought life was supposed to be fair! It is getting worse too. We don't have many children and it only takes one generation to tip the scales. It has been about 2 generations since the birth control pill became availible. The White race is going down fast as it has less than a 2 child per family birth rate.

Not just Arizona, this has been growing countrywide. You will hardly see anyone but mexicans in any form of labor business here in California. They may start out illegal, but all they gotta do is pop out a kid and that kid is a legal US citizen.

Now, within a generation or so, the "legals" own car dealerships, insurance agencies, contracting firms, etc etc. Oh, not to mention getting all the govt jobs as well as becoming elected officials. Who's interests do you think those elected officials are there to represent?

Even many businesses don't want to hire you unless you can speak english and spanish, since that is a large part of their customer and employee base. The pwb (poor white boy) is f----d, people. It will soon be us picking grapes for min wage while all the good jobs go to minorities who got free ride college educations YOU were forced to pay for.
