Arguing With Idiots

Other roofer: You brag about your old roofs, but that cold process system is junk. Me: They last a lot longer than what you do, that's what roofers are supposed to do, last.

Other roofer: That's your opinion. Me: No, that's fact. You've been in business as long as I have, can you show me any of your 27-30 year old flat roofs?

Other roofer: You say a roof is 27 years old but that doesn't mean it is. Me: Here is the reference from the church saying we put the roof on 27 years ago, and here is one from a CPA saying we put his on 30 years ago. I'm not sure why you think they'd lie for me, but I guess it's possible.

It's funny how a guy can stand there are argue that your roof is junk when he has never been able to install one that last 1/2 as long. The building owner doesn't care about all the hype and salesmanship, nor how long hot roofing has been around. He looks at 2 figures: How much does it cost, divided by how long it lasts.

The official Idiot Proof System has one essential tool, a bubble suit. You just inflate everyone up, and you just lay there (or roll a little). Nobody messes anything up, nobody gets hurt, it's a perfect system.

What I love most about roofing is the fact that everytime we come up with a tool or system that is "Idiot-Proof"..... the idiots just get better.

Pardon me guys, I didn't mean to badmouth hot roofing.

I'm just now getting back into roof contracting 100% again, and getting my mojo back. It's making me a little too aggressive - I'll turn it down a notch. :-)
