When I was framing, we used to call fake roofs built on to ranch houses just for curb appeal "California gables". I think we now see want an "Indiana gable" looks like.
Agree with Willie, Chimney was built after the fact. Does not look semetrical,but should work just fine. the side we can not see would come all the way to the corner.
Looks like an old gable vent. The chimney might have been built after the fact. Tear the old gable vent off the roof. Problem solved.
B) OK, I'll fess up. I did the roof when the house was built. The chimney wasn't to the ceiling yey, so I measured it's width where it stopped, and it was the same as the hole in the roof, so I built the cricket to that. :(
When the mason came out to the side and smaller, we added wood and closed it off like that. :)
