Mike, Heard there was another 6.5 quake. Hope all is well by you. Did you feel it?
Yup that's the one. B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day
Our Honeymoon, The Lovely Mrs Ciak and I are in Venice Italy. This leg of the Honeymoon was a spontaneous decision. The Hotels were full so we booked a room in a Penceone over looking one of the canals. Crawl up into bed for the night dead tired from walking and site seeing. That night a major earthquake hit northeast of Venice in the Friuli region."Terremoto del Friuli" Literately threw us out of bed onto the floor. Waking up from the jolt we look at each other and said, " I think that was an earthquake" nodded our heads in agreement, crawled back up into bed and fell fast asleep. Next Morning as we board the train for Catatonia Sicily passengers from the North brought dogs, cats chickens, pigs even a donkey. People from every walk of life getting the hell out of Dodge fearing the aftershocks. Venice is built on pilings and they absorbed the shock of the wave. Not for nothing Vickie a major earthquake in California would bring me to a very comfortable retirement.

I pretty much live on an earthquake fault. We feel little ones all the time. You can hear them coming. Sounds like a big truck rumbling down the street and then the whole house jolts. If it's big enough I go to this website http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/ and find it and then tell my family how big it was. You can see the info on the NZ quakes there also.
I really feel it in my body afterwords, it's like you have shakey legs for a while. We'll be fixing this little beauty next week.
Yes, I have earthquake insurance. I think it was an additional $900 last year.
Do you have "Quake" insurance?
I have only felt 2 or 3 quakes in my lifetime and they were very slight. Kind of weird though.
Glad you're OK Mike.
Having grown up in a rural area, we always felt quakes were sort of exciting, (is that a pun?)..... The emotional aspect - I suppose, because of that, I fail to grasp - for example; My mother-in-law would never live in California because it's simply going to fall-off into the ocean someday.....(LOL)
It is a shame, though - the resultant destruction/grief that occurs in populated areas around the world, at times.
Glad you're OK, Mike. Personally, I like to hold on to the illusion that I'm on "solid ground", even though I know perfectly well that my solid ground is actually some slag floating on top of molten rock. Being reminded of the fact that the earth below is anything but solid is intellectually honest, but emotionally scary. Oh well. Let us enjoy the times we do have.
I thought the same thing this morning when I saw it on the news. It didn't say what time it hit in NZ so was Mike on a roof? Hope he's safe.
