---Economic times are tight. A larger roofing company went under recently and I went to the auction where their equipment, supplies and leftovers went up for sale. I passed on the vehicles but one flatbed went for $300. A dunp truck went for $800 and I thought the dump alone was worth well over that. I got the flashing rack for $150 that had over 2,000 lbs of flashing on it. I got a large pallet of vents for $25.00. And so it went... ---Work is slow and the weather is terrible. I see 60% rain for the next 10 days. Not very friendly for tearing off. So I am not buying as much as I could have at the auction. Cash is king as they say and there will be more deals in the future. ---It is sure nice to have a lot of stock available for jobs coming up. All the odds and ends that are also needed for a complete roof job add up. Very seldom do I have to buy anything except the shingles and felt. ---They had 3 pallets of the high profile hip and ridge. I thought I had the high bid of $10/pallet. I was standing 5 feet from the auctioneer right in front of him. Turns out he had someone else. That was several thousand dollars worth of material that I missed out on. But there will be other auctions... Lanny

Most of the vehicles (many of them) were auction off at a local out of business dealership lot in Tacoma. The local shop was a 1/2 mile down the road, not sure if they auctioned every thing else there. They were in business for over 20 yrs and was one of the largest and popular residential roofing companies around. Knew a lot of roofers that are now out of work.

It seems that the largest companies are collapsing due to thier financial committement to keep thier operation running.

I got a postcard for a roofing auction in Tacoma, was that where this was? Too bad they couldn't have hung around for another month or two until I will have time to run up there.
