As someone raised in a 32-year veteran cop's (a house in Dodge City, KS which Wyatt Earp & Bat Masterson have been in), and as someone who trained many cops in my karate schools, it pains me to see the militaristic direction our PD are taking.
Watch the vide below - it's where we're heading fast. This is why the Posse Comitatus Act was enacted.
Well put, but with the internet and face book now, everyone tell everything there is to know at all times to all people. Nothing is hidden or secret anymore. I wonder how they are getting all of this information,..Wait a minute, we are giving it to them. Who is stupid? food for thought!
Peter; Very well put....Similar experience here...Aprx. same age, had discussion with my father; "The less they know about you, the better....avoid them at all costs".....Something like that.
Every police force has those who will abuse the system, wearing the uniform or flashing the badge gives them power and we are supposed to do as we are told.
While we don't have a fully armed police force (yet) their word is always taken as the truth in any court of law here, power corrupts especially those who lacked basic self confidence when growing up.
On one side when growing up we are always told to respect law enforcement, when I was about 15 (all innocent) my Father and Grand Father explained the rules, talk nice to them but remember;
The majority of our police force are only in the job because they were not fit do anything else, in Ireland there was a hierarchy in families, oldest son got the farm, one went for the priesthood, the smart ones emigrated, dumbest joined the police force for the guaranteed pay and pension.
There's scum everywhere, sometimes the cream can beat the scum rising to the top, however mty experience is be very careful when dealing with anyone who takes power from a uniform or badge and I am not in the USA.
That is good to hear, but sadly it is exception and not the rule anymore.
Well I will not argue that there are not bad cops because I'm sure there are plenty but unlike cts racing when my son totaled the front end of his mustang 3 weeks after getting his license he got lucky with a good one.
I got a call about 11:00 on a Saturday night dad I was just in an accident, when I got there the cop was also already there, after we all got done talking the cop didnt even give him a ticket and later told me away from my son (I was 18 once and totaled my camero I don't really see any good coming from giving him a ticket no one was hurt and he just lost his car I think hes been punished enough) I said thank you and took my son home and had the car towed up the street to our house the next morning.
For decades I thought most cops were good, honest, people who want to help. I later learned that this was a mirage, that I was treated differently because I was an insider of sorts. As soon as that favoritism stopped, I saw the truth.

Which policeman and which citizen? They come in all shapes and sizes. A citizen with an ego problem is problematic. A policeman with an ego problem is a disaster.
Im up for jury duty on the week of July 16th; and thats exactly what I marked on the questioneer also:
My son (18 yrs. old) was driving my truck home from an all-nighter that our church had and got a flat tire and took out a Chevron sign. He immediately pulled over in a church parking lot and gave me a call. Im 10 minutes away, and when I got there, the police were there also and had already written up my son for: GET THIS! - Leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report property damage.
(I had no idea that there was a 5 minute time period to find the local police phone # & that my son should have backed the truck up to where the sign was laying - sarcasm)
As the police where telling me the charges for my son, he mentioned how the whole right side of my truck was damaged! Now let me tell you! Im standing there looking at the right side of my truck and there wasnt a mark on it!!! I had a dent on the front bumper where my son made contact with the sign, but I couldnt believe the blatant fabrication lies this cop was coming up with.
My son later told me that before I got there, that the cop asked him about 8 times who was driving (my son had a friend with him and was taking him home) to which he stated that he (my son) was the driver. The cop wanted my sons friend (17 yrs old) to be the driver and wasnt accepting my sons answer. (Apparently there is a different set of rules for 17 vs 18 yrs. old)
This incident left a bad taste im my mouth for the police.
Sadly, all true.
I grew up in a cop's house. My stepdad was on the Dodge City PD for 32 years - cops were in our house all the time. Later I taught cops for 8 years in my karate school. Later, out of the 9 employees I hired at my car wash, 7 were local cops. I have always been pro-cop.
Not anymore though. Too many are simple adrenalin junkies for whom the Constitution and your rights are mere toilet paper. When a friend got falsly busted for DWI I reasearched on the internet and stumbled onto an internet forum of cops, who were actively coaching each other about how to "get around the arrestee's 4th Amendment rights, by falsely calling the search of their vehicle an Inventory Search.
When the cop found out I filed a FOIA request for his past LEO work history (he was fired in his past LEO job, btw), the cop set out to bust me for whatever he could. In the 2nd video below, from the security cameras at my car wash, you can see that I left my parking lot, I did not blow the stop sign at the street next to my car wash. In the 1st video you will see him pull me over where he accused me of running a stop sign on a street I was never on. When I told him my security cameras would exonerate me, he let me go. But the reason for his stop was to harass me and try to sniff for pot or alcohol so that he could bust me.

If you think cops are your friend, you're are one incident from finding out that they are there to punish, not to serve and protect.
There are some good cops out there and the vast majority of them are desprately trying to get out or just waiting for the day they can retire. The bad ones are encouraged and promoted, and the higher ups are told what to do and either greatly rewarded or shoved under the bus if they resist. This whole country is being run by a far different group than what most perceive, and we are the pawns. Like I said before, i think it is too late and our goose is already cooked.

It is all a symptom of a far greater problem. Our goose is cooked I am afraid!

Very well said.
I have often said that one crooked cop does more damage to society than twenty drug dealers.
Woody, how many will use themto spy on the old lady? Or some other unsuspecting person? Give A kid A toy. I am getting some when I move back to costa rica. For night snake hunts.
The state of Washington recently made a purchase of night vision goggles for the State Patrol. Since the average hiway patrolman only has the investigative skills and duties of a meter maid, why would they need them? To look for seatbelt violators at night. There's crimefightin for you.
Their is an epedemic in south Florida of steroid users among the ranks of Law Enforcement. In palm beach county they fired some officers. Other municipalities are attempting to eradicate it yet it's so sensitive as A subject. In regards to their method of acquisition, they place themselves I questionable status of honesty regarding their oath to serve and protect. They also have some modicom of honesty and A few other principles that go with the badge. I'll give A small rundown. The steroids, " officer small pecker, are you on any growth hormones? We've had to purchase 4 sizes larger hats and body armor, and 5 sizes smaller jock straps why"? "Well Sargent Rules, I have A hinky back issue and my Dr. has ordered several steroid sessions to correct it. I have A note from my brother in law physician" How about those guys, they flash their lights and siren, blow through the intersection, man, someone must be dead. You get to McDonald's and theirs another cruiser, he went to lunch with his bud. Or, the ones that use their suit to get up the line in the bank, he's in A hurry. Then goes out gets in his car, with his wife and kids in the family automobile. Gee officer "I'm so special, you takin the fam out on tour with you"? One of my favorites, which landed me in cuffs and then A beat down. I got pulled over on my motorcycle, I was about 19. ,,, take that god damned helmet off!!! Where the fuck you going in such A big hurry? Ok ok, I'm just having trouble with the God damned strap. And I'm not really in that big of A fucking hurry. Hey punk, do you see this badge? Speak to me with respect. The fight was on. I asked him what was the difference in my foul language as opposed to his. He called for backup, sat in his cruiser making me stand in the assumed position til JWN#2 showed up, then Barney fife came along also. So, they cuff me,theirs 3 of them and they start that questioning/roadside provoking routine. Did I learn foul mouth from my mom, punks like me needed to learn respect, where did I get such A nice motorcycle, did I suck Wang on Collins ave. I knew the brevity of the situation, yet I went cut for cut. I won the cut down session. I didn't win the fight. One against the greatest street gang in the US, with handcuffs on, I didn't fare well. It never crossed my mind to even sue. In Miami you are conditioned that they are the law, above their own law, you may not lose today, you could die tomorrow. I fear all officers with thick necks, shaved heads and tattoos down here in south Florida. I fear the legal system. I am not scared of them, my fear is A healthy fear founded in one simple fact. Witnesses don't speak u, often because they see the ramifications of what happens to those that do. This video exemplified that. People with cameras are more likely to suffer longer lasting effects of applying A right given by amendments than the perp of the original crime. We have A dilemma, criminals with badges, that have the greatest legal counsel and impetus within the confines of the courthouse than anyone else. This is another topic, that we as Americans can't ever staunch. Is is A cut carotid flowing the blood of our rights in the name of justice. We have A system, it is in place to police criminals. When you have officers that are criminals, their needs to be A police team to police team #1.
Gosh Egg, that sounds like a police state to me. Like you say, there are a lot of good ones, but as a general rule, think back to when you were in high school and what the kids were like. Now think of which ones are now in law enforcement. Generally speaking, they were the ones that were picked on and in remedial math and such. Put a gun in their hand and a badge on their chest and they get to "punish" those that picked on them when they were growing up.
I could certainly see that in the bit where the cop was walking along the line of people protesting something and sitting on the ground where he sprayed the entire line with pepper spray, walking back and forth. What a sick world we live in.
