They nailed that sucker down with 8 nails to the shingle! They had 4 nails in each step flashing!I guess it has been leaking for the 4 years since they put the addition on, and the builder coundn't figure out how to fix it. They called me, and we got-r-dun! Certainly a challange to take apart though.
Hey, I did another one today! An 80 year old asbestos slate roof in GREAT shape. They cut down a tree and let a branch bounce off the roof. It hit the chimney and also the ridge board, slid down the roof and tore off the electric mast. The one thing the owners demanded before the guy cut the tree down was that they NOT let it hit the roof. Of all things, I guess the guy that owned the tree company was pissed at the home owners! Huh? It is going to cost him for sure.
I had my 40 foot ladder up to the roof, and then a 14 foot extension ladder strung up the valley to get to the area. We had to take out some slates and put a roof jack on it to get to the rest. It wil take a 60 foot lift to get to the chimney cap. Not good! More work for us though!
No, it was a 4/12 pitch 40 year shingle. I guess they had done a building a few years earlier for the guy and he had some blow off in the winter, so the owner told them to nail them on good. they did! What a pain to take off!
O/S I must admitt, i might be guilty of putting to many nails in the step flashing, just to piss off the next roofer. 8 nails per shingle, Why was it a manserd?
We got it done and it looks good. A lot more work than one would think. J.P. Stevens TPO membrane and we had to tear apart the soffit and fascia, plus reshingle a section.
I hope those kind of fellows stay around forever, because they make us good guys look that much better.
