Listen to you old cronnies, this is why I love ya!.
Going back to the shingles, I replaced my roof 9 years ago with 30 yr Timberlines.
I had 20 yr shingles on a 30 yr roof, still in great shape. I have intense wind at my property and all my storms come from the south & southwest. Not a clue as to the original roof. I can't give credit to a perticular manufacturer. I just replaced it because I knew it was due. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I worked for a roofing company.
I'm 62. Gave up the belt and tools many years ago. On again off again in this business. There is I swear a homing instinct. Just like the dog who gets left a thousand miles away, no where to get their bearings takes a sniff of the air and next thing you know he is on the porch wagging his tail. " idunno" man. I'm back in it again.
Hell Egg, I am 58, between the both of you, and I believe that roofing must actually be a disease, because all of us are still at it.
I've got you by over five years Mike, but who's counting? lol
The ambient temperature was over 100 degrees, but when the surface temperature where we were working was 147 degrees and rising, we decided to return at five and work until 8. A vintner looking for sugar is happy. We are looking to stay alive. Nature has recanted this year's amnesty and determined to challenge us after all. No matter. I refuse to render up my tools. Hot, cold, windy, or mean.
No wonder we're "wrinkly around the edges;" you gotta be tough to last in this business.
Leathery.
Unrelenting.
Invincible.
18" tabs, organic. No roof vents either (2 gable vents one w/ a fan) about 50 sq.
The only other thing I've seen like 'em were Manville fiberglass from the mid 60's----and they last a long time too.
Never heard of the Carry OS
I was gonna ask if those were the old timey 2-tab shingles. I never installed one, but I have torn many off.
Are those the old Carry Firechex? 18 inch wide tabs? We roofed a bank in town in the early 60's with those and they just redid it about 3 weeks ago. they were still in good shape too!
Yes they are going, going...... but in much better shape than many 1/3 or 1/4 their age
