OLE Willie

Anybody got a midget and a really small hammer I can borrow for a few hours?

I don't know what the white part in the upper right corner is. Maybe a grocery list?

I'm about to head out the door this morning to go replace the flashing in this dead spot and replace 3 pipe collars on back.

Gotta love that pink counter flashing too! Maybe I could paint some purple pokie dots onto it also. What ya think?

OS and Woody, yep that was just one of those weird streaks. Not the norm by any stretch.

But 2 out of 3 is my true average.

You know the old song? Two out of Three Aint Bad?

Tinner, if I sell anymore of these "in tight" jobs would you do them for 50% of the profit after materials?

My favorite kind of project. I'd love to have 1-3 of these week after week. I could live off that.

I bought a clipboard with a calculator on it. About the 5th bid I used it on, the calculator went dead and I thought "piece of crap". But then I realized that I had gotten all the jobs I bid on with it and considered it my lucky calculator. I got at least 10 more before the streak ended.

that works great. It just doesn't happen overnight either.

OS, I've done about 6 in a row now with NO other bidders. All repairs. Five sold on the spot at the time of the original inspection and one was sold over the phone after looking at the satellite image. :)

Also you may not believe this but Me and a helper once sold 18 in a row without missing an on the spot sale.

We then missed ONE and sold 16 more consecutively. 34 out of 35. This was after an enormous rain hit our area.

Those negociated no bid jobs are nice!

Also: I didn't take anymore pics because it was steep and hard enough just to stay up there working in tight like that. Plus a good chance of rain. Can't get much done playing with electronic equipment.

He has 2 of these areas, both just left and just right of the front door.

I painted the pink step counter flashing with some weathered wood spray paint and put wethered wood flashing in the dead spot.

I made two seperate pans. One for the lower part and then I overlapped that with another pan i cut to size and bent up 4 inches in behind the facia of the higher part.

I let the metal pans overhang the hip ridge and nailed them down on the front part only. I put new ridge caps on over this but did not nail the top side where the pans are. I sealed them down up there so there would be no leak points. I didn't form and cut all that flashing just to drive nail holes in it! lol

PS: I did the dead spot first and saved the pipes for last as we had a chance of rain today.

Somehow, I was able to only whisper the 4 letter words during the whole process of redoing the dead spot.

However, by the time i was on the 2nd pipe collar and I had moved around back where no one was, I was mumbling the 4 letter ones a bit louder.

It was a good, profitable job and I'm glad I did it for him. I'm also glad its over with!

OLE Willie

Ironic you should say that pgriz!

I removed 11 dirt dobber nests and 6 wasp nests from the top side of the vinyl soffit covering applied to the overhang of the upper roof to the right. Fortunately for me there were no insects taking up residence there today while I was doing the work.

The previous roofers had installed galvanized valley metal all the way from the upper valley and down into the corner at the bottom. Then they put ice and water shield over that but did not peel the plastic off the backside. They also put a line of silicone caulking along the upper side of the ridge caps.

On top of all that a couple more roofers had half arse attempted to stop the leak using MASS SILICONE!

And yet more crappy crap was put over all this by the homeowner. He first sprayed it with the magic stuff on TV that is supposed to stop a leak in a boat. Next he sprayed it with the foam type stuff. And lastly he tarred the crap out of it.

NONE of any of that stuff EVER stopped the leak and the homeowner said it had been leaking during heavy rains since the house was first built. As in before the sheet rock was ever hung!

It wasn't really a huge job, ( took 4 hrs including the pipes ) but it was a little pain in the butt. Today was just one of those days were all kinds of little stuff kept going whacky and getting on Ole Willies nerves.

It was a homeowner supervised project also and in 4 hours he asked me just about every question that i can remember ever answering in my 30 years of roofing. lol

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate him and he certainly appreciated me. This guy is NO price shopper. When he discovers this leak is finally gone for good after all those years, Ole Willie is gonna have yet another super strong referring client and repeat business!

Hmmm. I like the design feature that the valley drains on "this" side of the hip, ensuring the water runs into the corner. When we come across this kind of feature, I'd suggest to the homeowner to allow me to box in that space, and flash around it, so that the water from the valley drains past the hip. That approach also has the benefit of removing a place for birds, squirrels and wasps to set up shop. Unless the homeowners want to provide shelter for the wild things, in which case we could possibly fashion a little nest box... (sorry, just kidding).

OLE Willie

I'm gonna try to mumble all the four letter words really low so the homeowner can't hear them.

Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it!
