Cell Phones on the Job - What’s your policy?

Stantz- Phones
August 4, 2018 at 11:29 a.m.

Are cell phones friend or foe?  They are a valuable tool on the job, but then there is the personal abuse aspect. RCS Influencer Jon Stantz says it's a two-edged sword.

It's a tough question. Obviously, anytime you are on the phone you’re not physically working. On our projects, six of us have phones provided by the owner, he expects to be able to reach us most times during the day, especially if one of us is by ourselves checking a roof issue. However, personal phones are left in the trucks, too much distraction on the roof. It’s really a two-edged sword, great to have if you need something, not so when you are concentrating on work.

P.S. I normally leave mine somewhere else other than my pocket. I can check it when I want to that way. Thanks, Jon Stantz.

Jon Stantz is a supervisor, salesperson and repairman for Pell Roofing and Siding in Brazil, Indiana. See his full bio here.
