While I'm very thankful to my father for molding me into a roofer, most of the memories I have are of him riding my arse all the time.
But if he hadn't done that, I may not have ever developed the kind of work ethic needed to be a successful long time roofer. Most people don't. It's too tough for them and I can understand that.
We had a spat one time when I only had about a years experience. I was 17. I quit and drove around all day looking for a new construction house to roof for a home builder. Just before dark I landed one. It had like a 5 sided bay window on it and I had to bite the bullet that night, call my dad and ask him how to roof it. He just laughed his butt off and told me how to do it. I roofed that one, got paid, spent all the money and was back to work with my dad by the next Monday.
