Hi Jay, welcome aboard. Like you say this place is addicting. A lot of us have been addicted for 10 years now. A lot of issues have been talked about over the years and there are slow times but it sure has picked up a lot. I'm Gerry, based in the Chicago suburbs. I might have a skewed idea about pricing compared to the guys in the south. Seems like a big difference in what the market will bear. One thing I have learned here is that I need to understand my own numbers and decide how much I want to make in a year so that I can decide what I need to charge to reach that point. The biggest challenge that I have had is justifying in my own head that what I am charging is fair and right. By knowing what my business costs me I can confidently talk to customers about what a job will cost and if I have to I can explain why. I have also learned that I cannot compete with the other roofers that I bid against. I just have to sell my company and crew and try to make it clear that we are the best choice.
Welcome aboard Jay. I'm glad you see the benefits of being an active member of RCS. Sometimes, it's like therapy for roofers.
My name is Chuck but you might see a few folks call me Willie. It's a long story but you can call me whatever you like. Maybe Chillie or Wuck? :silly:
Tom Williams here, but no one believes me!
