Oak shakes has anyone heard of or installed them/

I had a person ask me about oak shakes I have been around cedar shakes. Any comments would be helpfull. Thanks Chuck>>>

Do oak shakes exist as a viable roofing covering? This is the question that I posed on various search engines, most notably, GOOGLE, in a valiant attempt to find an answer to this simple question. The tower in Greenbush (Scituate) MA was resided with cypress shingles.... now those were some tough things to cut with a stanley knife.>>>

I doubt if there is a real benefit over cedar. In pioneer days Oak would have been readily available and therefore used as shingles when little else could be had.>>>

Pine shakes weree utilized around here a few years ago.....I don't believe oak would hold up as compared to cedar....What is the claimed benifit?>>>

There all a bunch of jokers, and yes there comments are amusing, i don't think a Oak Shake exists. If it did how could you charge by the Sq.... it would be astonishing, must admit it would look very nice, but you can't cost justify it?>>>
