I can see 3 options to avoid OSHA What in your opinion would be best:
1) 1099 your employees/ dump it off on Subs 2) Work strictly holidays and weekends 3) Only allow illegal immigrant workforce (untouchable by the law/ American laws do not apply to them) 4)????????
if not these choices then deal with them and get with the program
Be sure and make a report every time somebody slips on a safety rope! They get 15-20 reports a week, or daily, they'll make changes.
I wish they'd write firemen up. Every time a see a fire on the news, those idiots have a ladder at a real scary 45 degrees! :woohoo: Good way to miss a step and break a leg or have it kick out.
When the 6' rule was temporarily in place in the 90's, it was the straw than broke the camels back. Instead of just roofers, it brought in electricians, plumbers, drywallers and made a whole lot more of the framing process effected by the fall protection violation zone. It was that it became an unattainable PIA for every trade that led to modification. Let's hope for a repeat.
No helmets on motorcycles, but seatbelts in cars... (PLEASE I'm not trying to start a riot with that one!)
You'd think after the mass killings in on 9/11, no one would be allowed in an office building (PLEASE I'm not trying to start a riot with that one!)
How about this......how many young Americans does the Gooberm$nt send to get killed overseas every year? Where are the citations? Maybe we should call ourselves soldiers (PLEASE I'm not trying to start a riot with that one!)
The contrast between the old pictures of the guys sleeping at break on the I beams of the skyscrapers and Mike Holmes hooking up on a rope harness to walk on a 4 / 12 pitch one story house on TV are what is nuts. At the same time, you have pictures similiar to the one on the current National Geographic where a guy is standing on a granite ledge at Yosemite about 10 inches wide and 2 thousand feet in the air. You also have people free climbing on the mountains with no ropes and no hooks. This is called "adventure"
Why can't we just call roofing a 4/12 roof "adventure" and tell the bureaucrats to just leave us alone? What a world we live in!
---I work for a GC now and then. Whenever I want to get paid I have to print out a lien release, run down to the bank and have it notorized. I feel sorry for the poor guy to have to run all that paperwork. Lanny
Roofguy: Looks like a decent book judging by the reviews and the price tag!! $45 - $195
BTW: I do vote Libertarian
Step 1: Become a Libertarian and vote that way. Step 2: Read: http://www.amazon.com/How-Found-Freedom-Unfree-World/dp/0380004232/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1303860987&sr=8-1
Flood them with paperwork. I know of one compliant case so far that a roofer tripped on the rope and fell, without injury, I think. 40-50 cases a week might make them rethink it.
egg; Yes, we've allowed ourselves to go completey nuts! I was just reminded why I don't do new const. for GC's any longer....An estimator from a GC I had worked for years ago, recently contacted me to bid a project. Along with the invitation came this stern message as to all subs must agree to the GC crafted subcontract agreement....It's 96 fricken pages long! WTF?
I feel bad when I present my 5 page contract to an owner....But, 96 pages? How in God's green earth did that ever come about? Are they all smok'n crack?
Another thing; Don't they realize, it is us, the subcontrator, that is extending credit to them,(the GC)? The GC should be the one under scrutiny, not the entity extending credit....It bass-ackwards!!!!

I am thinking of those folks in Wall-E.
Like Jim said, we will be legislated to the couch. And for the Americans (party loyalists) that will be given the privilege to work, it will prolly be as administrators of the bureaucratic mess.
We need a new version of 1984 written, before complete Dem/ Rep adoration sets in
They'll take away my ability to earn and give me welfare instead.
Great; now I'll be able to afford a big screed tv too!
Wow! All true. What do the guys that are to young to retire do? If it costs 10 times as much to do the job and you still get fined, what are you supposed to do?
We have been scaffolding our jobs for a long time, but on the low sloped roofs, it makes no sense. Kind of like a sidewalk. I have been on roofs for over 54 years now, and some of things I see now are more than stupid, they are criminal. What Egg said!
I'm looking at guardrail systems. I'm looking at horizontal lifelines. I'm looking at job location as a top priority. I'm looking at retiring. I'm looking at joint ventures and corporations. I'm looking at safety monitors to watch for people driving around with binoculars who aren't wearing harnesses themselves. I'm looking at doing even more of the work myself. I'm looking at combinations of all of the above. I'm looking at the whole system and trying not to throw up. What in the hell has happened to this country? We used to want men to match our mountains. No longer. Now all we do is memorize categories, sub-categories, endless changing minutiae and pussyfoot around disenchanted, angry, squinty-eyed, suspicious, and cynical. Give us our lives back. We're facing a tsunami of fines in all directions. Just for living. There's no love in it. It's not just a nanny-state, it's a nazi state. Insupportable. Stupid. God, I hate stupid. Of all things, I hate stupid the most.
