Can't stand the stink and rattle. Had a turbo diesel once and that did me for this lifetime. Also once owned a Dodge ram that was built up by a Pro Gas drag racer machinist for himself back in the seventies. Black and chrome slingshot. Gas engine. Put your foot in it and watch the gage plunge. Hard not to put your foot into it. Impossible really. He didn't understand the income tax credit during those days and begged to buy it back when he realized he was going to have to pay a heavy penalty for not keeping it for three years. I sold it back to him without any (major) regrets. Now I just want a ride that can slip quietly out the back door and squeeze into any normal parking space without a lot of fussing. All y'all can have the sizzle and I'm happy leavin' every bit of it to ya. To me, all the new trucks just look bloated but that does seem to be the rage these days. My favorite grill of all time was the '79 Ford. That tells you about all you need to know I guess. '78 was a close second, just a headlamp away. lol
I am about past that point in my life. I drive a chevy diesel with about 300K on it, and am not trying to impress anyone. It is working too!! I does go like a raped ape though. I have a chip in it and I use the Conklin lubricants and additives. If you want better mileage, you should look into them. I was getting about 12 -13mpg when I started and I got 17.3 in the last tankful. That was mostly highway miles, but it is common to get 15+ pulling the trailer and such. It all averages out to about a 20- 24% increase in mileage at least for me and that truck. That is like buying your fuel for $2.50 / gallon at todays prices. You save a lot of money on oil changes too, and the engine runs "happy" is the best way to describe it.
Give me a bump if you are at all interested, as you have to buy it from a dealer. It works!
This truck gets around 14 mpg, if I keep my foot out of it. Which is hard. My Powerstroke limited out at 95 mph. The other day I was passing a car and looked down in amazement that I was going 105. Sheesh, it really wants to go.
Nice truck. I had a 3/4 ton Chevy 2500 that drank up the gas like no tomorrow. I let it go when I moved to the country. My 1/2 ton Silverado lost a transmission two weeks ago and it stayed down for 12 days. I almost let it go as well and just buy another one but I broke down and put a new transmission in it. Just got it back Friday morning and let me be the first to tell ya that being without a truck for 12 days sux.
