OLE Willie

Nearly 30 years of roofing and i don't recall ever seeing hail make a roof leak.

We are all peddler's. Roofing is a way of life not a racket. Perhaps a racket for the storm chaser. There is nothing wrong with a roofer who can identify storm damage avail himself of the opportunity to make an increase in the amount of work he is doing. SOMEBODY has to do it. Why wait for the storm chaser to steal it away from you.

"Becomes" nothing but a racket? It has changed a lot in the last 50 years for sure.

Rockydog Said: Cha Cha, couldnt the genuine roofer and the roof peddling, self proclaimed insurance specialist be one and the same?

To use your example, far too often both the genuine roofer and peddler are into roofing for no other reason than to drum up business from a storm. And the roofing business becomes nothing but a racket.

LadyLovesRoofin Said: The question that faces you today: drawing from your experience as a roofer do you believe that 1-inch or 1.5-inch hail can cause a roof to leak?

If the hail caused the leak, then a competent roofer should be able to pinpoint where the hail stone struck the roof and where the leak originated. Too many times, storm damage will be blamed for shoddy workmanship when in reality it is the other way around.

A good reason too. Great to have you back and writing.

OS, I,ve been busy just trying to maintain the roofing end. So much work was eaten up after the Oct, 2010 storm and there are so many new roofers in town that it's been slim pickin's.The new build market is starting to heat up which is helping some. Cha Cha, couldn't the genuine roofer and the roof peddling, self proclaimed insurance specialist be one and the same? I have been roofing for 28 years, am also a Haag certified roof inspector, a certification I use deftly against the certified/uncertified adjustors. Of course, I am honest enough to only use it where there is actual damage.

The hail that hit the west bank recently was hard ice and has damaged roofs we changed in the 2011 hail storm and according to the hail swath they are in an area that received 1.5 or less in size.So yes small hail can cause damage if its hard ice,but is it causing this roof to leak four months later only a proper roof inspection can tell.

Rocky! Long time since we heard from you. Been busy? Charr9ise, It depends on how hard they were frozen. Slush balls don't do much, but hard ice will beat hell out of them.

Just once! Just once I would like an adjuster to let me take a set of drumsticks( a tip a little larger than a pea)to the hood of his car for 30 seconds and see if it creates any damage. They've all refused to let me do it.
