The adjusters are lowballing the claim. That forces the roofer to file a supplemental claim and wait for the money. I have not had any problems getting State Farm to approve my supplements. The packets they send to the homeowner are indecipherable.
The problem is getting the homeowner to trust you while you explain the game. They must pay their deductible. There are too many slap on roofers out there who will cover their deductible, hire a $50 sub- literally using indentured servants to slap on a crappy roof- and the homeowner is left in no better position than he was before.
The homeowner is clueless but happy because he didn't pay his deductible and the slap on roofers were in and out in a day. The CONtractor is happy because he put a couple of thousand bills in his pocket for minimum work. The indentured servants give their coyote a cut and send a thousand bills back south and their families are living high on the hog.
Gotchya. My mind doesn't work in some ways/methods, and I'm out of the loop when it comes to some mindsets.
Nah Frank. it is simply what is going on out there.
I musta missed something Twill. I haven't seen that type of post. I know that in my cases, my price is the same no matter who is paying. The client's roof is my concern irregardless of who the payer is.
So let me picture this:
2 identical houses on the same street. Same contractor replacing both roofs. One has hail damage insurance is paying for. The other is out of pocket for the owner.
25 sq. For the homeowner w/o Hail Damage he will do the roof for $6,000. No upgrades or improvements, typical re-shingle job.
NOW for the insurance job, the same 25 SQ roof suddenly THE PRICE explodes to $7500, typical re-shingle job no upgrades.
My question is: FOR HOW LONG DO WE EXPECT THE INSURANCE COMPANIES TO REMAIN STUPID?
roof_dawg Said: Isnt this a pain in the ass. I noticed it about a month ago. I just stated in a post last night that my prices are going up and today I have to argue w/ SF over being $1,400 higher than them on a 5/12 1 layer house at my old rates. They arent paying for drip edge or ice & moisture guard in the valley. Another local contractor also bid it WAY higher than me(he is highest in area) and they still wont budge.I got SF to pay for drip edge a couple weeks ago where the gutter was nailed into it. Also, Ive heard they will pay for it if the felt is ran underneath the drip edge.
So? Tell them to call you when they're ready to sign your contract. You're doing the work. Not them. So, you do it at your price. Not somebody else's price.
I just wave and leave. If they don't call me later, not my problem. 'Your' price is not 'My' price.
Ultimately this might do the unimaginable: Cause contractors to raise their prices so that the only profitable jobs they get are not just insurance work.
Won't that be a STUNNER!

So? Jack your per sq. price $15.00 to cover it.
And don't forget to tell your client that their deductible just arbitrarily jumped from $1K to $3K by order of their own agent. That's what I do. Then, it all gets fixed and I carry on.
I just reviewed an adjusters report for a house my sister owns that was hail damaged....What a fricken mess/joke....What is this O&P crap?....A price, is a price, is a price, for Pete's sake....
Upon a little digging into sis's Ins. policy language, I found that the Ins. Co. is ultimately obligated to make the repairs/make good, so-to-speak....So, be dammed with their riduculous games....The Ins. Co. is simply going to have to pay for the repairs....What they actually cost, (lowest responsible bid)...Not what they THINK they should....
Good grief!!!!
To think of all the sheeple consumers, as well as roofing contractors, that must simply go along for the ride.....
