That is another interesting fluff topic--is it a saddle or cricket??

I started my career in 1980 as a tapered insulation draftsman/estimator. I still dont know the difference between the two!!

A cricket has two valleys and a saddle has four.

A saddle would be like a breezeway and a cricket would be behind a chimeny, for examples.

Fluff topic? I guess you are right. Is this DIFFICULT????????

Difficult?? Not now that you have explained the difference. In 32 years in the business I had never had that explained--you learn something every day. Thanks for the lesson.

Actually RoofSlope is a (in the very near) future customer of mine. I am allowed to plug them if I want to so check out their video here. http://www.roofslope.com/systems/ It's cool stuff.

A relatively new product on the market is "Roofslope". Basically a water impervious concrete mixture that you use to create a 'cricket' on top of the roof to divert water to its intended place.

Old School Yes, once or twice. When applying a tapered insulation, undulations in the concrete deck have to be corrected. We had that situation in a famous government building in DC. Our super merely poured hot asphalt on and let it seek its own level. And in a reroof of a local high school, undulations were a major latent condition which I trust the contractor was paid for cause it was substantial.

Hey Cid. Did you ever run into a situation on a tear off where someone had used sand to build a cricket and then roofed over it? I have seen that a couple of times years ago, but I don't do much tear off any more.

If ponding is not too serious, and water evaporates in 48 to 72 hours, I think that years ago, NRCA felt that it was of no consequence. Tapered insulation, crickets, should be considered, along w/ asphaltic perlite(silbrico). Just curious if they are still in business.

I agree with GKRFG Tapered or a drain. I think if you use 4'x4' tapered. I believe they are lettered "x" and "y". One end of the ISO is 1/2" the other goes up to 2".

Use them to build a cricket which can divert water around.

Of course popping a drain in that spot will pretty much always work.
